  • Nicknamed the “Yankee Clipper” by Arch McDonald comparing DiMaggio’s speed in the outfield to the new Pan American airliner. Joining Lou Gehrig in 1936, the dominant Yankees had not won a World Series since 1932, but went on to win the next four with DiMaggio. DiMaggio eventually achieved 9 World Series Championships (only second behind Yogi Berra with 10 World Series Championships), 3 MVPs, 2 Batting Titles and a 13 time All-Star (every year of his 13 year career). DiMaggio’s historic 56 game hitting streak in 1941 is a Major League record that still stands today. No doubt an exciting year for baseball as Ted Williams became the last hitter to bat over .400 (.406) and DiMaggio led the Yankees to a World Championship over the Brooklyn Dodgers.

DiMaggio’s franchise home run record (29 home runs) for a rookie stood for over 80 years until Aaron Judge shattered it in 2017 (52). DiMaggio also logged 361 career home runs.

DiMaggio was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1955.
